AirTrunk today announced the appointment of Leo Chen as its new Technical Director – Solutions Architecture.
Mr Chen joins AirTrunk from Alibaba Group where he held the position of Data Centre Platform Engineer.
Mr Chen’s extensive sector experience includes being the lead technical manager for Alibaba’s global data centre site selection and delivery team throughout APAC and EMEA. He was also responsible for the engineering design for significant hyperscale data centre projects of more than 150MW of critical loads, and the development of electrical engineering guidelines for Alibaba.
Reporting to Chief Technology Officer, Damien Spillane, Mr Chen will be responsible for innovation in data centre power generation, storage and distribution in line with the latest server and network technology developments.
Robin Khuda, Chief Executive Officer for AirTrunk said: “Leo’s extensive industry knowledge and deep technical background will make a significant contribution to the R&D team at AirTrunk. He will be instrumental in the translation of current trends and future requirements of cloud data centres to create a technical roadmap for the AirTrunk business.
“Additionally, Leo’s knowledge of hyperscale cloud requirements from a customer’s perspective is fundamental to our business, ensuring we meet the needs of our clients and help them to reach their commercial objectives.
“Given Leo’s extensive market knowledge across the APAC region, he will also become a key part of AirTrunk’s Site Selection team and will work with AirTrunk leadership to develop carrier and connectivity relationships and partnerships,” Mr Khuda said.
AirTrunk remains on track for operational commencement of its Sydney and Melbourne data centres in Q3 2017.
